One of the major events of the year, “JazzFest Goes On” took place on Sunday, August 26, 2012, in the Phineas Phogg’s Room at Seville Quarter. With the overwhelming success and popularity of the “Diva” and “Divo” shows over the past few years that feature top area vocalists, the all-star showcase drew a full house of jazz lovers. The lineup of vocalists included: Miguel Aldahondo, Rosie Butler, Saundra Daggs, Vivian Lamont, Tara Leigh, Kitt Lough, Kathy Lyon, Holly Shelton, David Suhor and Jim Vail. Joe Occhipinti’s Big Band played with all the vocalists.
Proceeds from this event go to support the 30th Annual Pensacola JazzFest, to be held April 1-7, 2013. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, and also in conjunction with the State of Florida’s “Viva Florida 500″ commemoration of Ponce de Leon’s landing and the naming of Florida, this JazzFest will be expanded to a full week of activities! Go to “VivaPensacolaJazz.com” to find out more about what’s being planned.
Presented free to the community, the JazzFest is possible only through the support of our membershp and guests at events like this as well as the generous donations received throughout the year. In addition, top-flight programs such as this attract new members to our organization and help us grow for the future. This show is a great opportunity for our members to introduce their friends to the Jazz Society–many of our members joined after discovering us through one of these showcase events.
Admission to “JazzFest Goes On” is $20.00 per person in advance and $25.00 per person at the door. Admission for students with ID is $5.00 at the door. Advance tickets will be available at JSOP events, Seville Quarter, Reynalds Music and Dollarhide’s Music and Sound, as well as the JSOP office.
Tickets may be purchased with Visa, Mastercard or Discover card by calling the office during office hours.
